Project Overview:Staring Lane is currently a two lane roadway that widens to include a center left turn lane at several intersections. This project will widen Staring Lane to a four lane section with sidewalks and raised median from Highland Road to Perkins Road. The project will require replacement of the existing bridge crossing Dawson Creek with two new bridges to accommodate both southbound and northbound traffic on Staring Lane. When combined with project F, Staring Lane Extension 1, from Burbank Drive to Highland Road, the project will provide a north-south link from I-10/Essen Lane directly to Burbank Drive. The project will also connect to the existing and proposed Perkins Road improvements identified on the City-Parish Major Street Plan.
Project No: 06-CS-HC-0024
Project Limits: Highland Road to Perkins Road
Project Budget: $43,275,888.00
Construction Amount: $26,964,828.40
Project Progress: The concrete paving of Staring Lane (through lanes, turn lanes, and median crossovers) will be completed in the first week of December. Traffic will then be swapped to the inside through lanes to allow the contractor to construct the sidewalks and driveways. The construction of the new turn lane on Hyacinth is scheduled to take place in December. Hyacinth will be closed for approximately 2 weeks to allow for this construction, with traffic detoured to Avis.
Project Look Ahead: After completion of the concrete paving on Staring in early December, the contractor will focus on completing the sidewalks and driveways between Highland and Chandler. Upon completion of the sidewalks and driveways, the contractor will work on dressing and seeding the slopes, and punchlist items, requiring intermittent lane closures. A drainage servitude behind the Staring Motel will be improved in January 2014.
